From Local Roots to Regional Impact

The BATTLE OF THE DANCELINES BODL was founded in 2007 by Kim Coln, the visionary behind Morris Brown College’s Bubbling Brown Sugars and Atlanta's Dazz with Jazz Dance Studio. The mission behind our founding was clear - to celebrate the best in dance and performance at these exciting locations. We aimed to spotlight the premier high school marching band dance lines in Metro Atlanta. Since inception, our dance competitions have expanded to welcome high schools from across the southeastern United States. We have set an ambitious goal to host annual events in Augusta, Georgia; Birmingham, Alabama; Jackson, Mississippi; and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Expanding Horizons

In recent years, we have expanded our scope beyond high schools to include community groups, dance studios, drum lines, and liturgical groups, such as Praise Mime. High school seniors who take part in the competition have the opportunity to vie for college scholarships. Each year, we award up to three scholarships to outstanding dance performers who not only excel on the stage but also demonstrate academic excellence and submit compelling essays.

A Broader Vision

Kim Coln’s broader vision for us is to have our events broadcast live on television. We believe that showcasing our dance competition teams on such a platform will inspire our youth to reach new heights. By presenting positive and empowering images, this broadcast can counteract the negative portrayals often seen on television, offering a more uplifting view of our community.
